Bicycle parking

Creating a solid end-to-end experience

To use a bicycle for transportation, the user needs a convenient, safe place to park and store the vehicle.

More broadly, for bicycling to flourish, bicyle parking needs to gives users who have a lot of different needs a consistently good experience.

With e-bikes, the stakes are higher: They expand access and make car-light living more feasible. But they can be more cumbersome to park and their higher value makes them more attractive to thieves. Compared to the average cylist, owners of e-bikes are even more sensitive to good parking.

And as cities around the US are eliminating “parking minimums” for cars, huge amounts of real estate–and opportunities to use facilities more efficiently–are being liberated. The time is ripe.

Way forward

Provide parking and storage to make using bicycles convenient and stress-free, which is a foundation to increasing the use of bicycles, supporting an efficient multimodal transportation system, and reducing bike thefts.
